Even though the summer fun might be on the way out, it’s not quite time to settle in at home on the couch for the winter if you’re in Christchurch. The South Island’s favourite city has a plethora of entertaining events happening throughout March that will give you something to do no matter what mood you’re in, and whether you’re heading out of the house or just visiting for the day, everyone is welcome.
From a comedy to art shows, anything and everything is on offer during Christchurch Pride’s roster of events throughout March. Whether you’re a member of the LGBTQI+ community or an ally, anyone and everyone can join in on the fun.
If you haven’t yet experienced an outdoor movie, you’re missing out. All throughout March the Open Air Cinema are showcasing some of the summer’s most revered films, but the must-see event this year will be the Mountainfilm On Tour showcase, which plays the most popular adventure-inspired short films from the latest Mountainfilm festival at Telluride.
Get your doggo/s leashed up because Rollickin, Christchurch’s favourite ice-cream joint, are putting on their annual dog walk to raise money for the SPCA Christchurch Centre. Traverse down the streets of Christchurch while your four-footed pal makes some new friends, and you’ll end up at the Arts Centre’s Mākete, where you and your dog can enjoy some ice cream and arty fun.
‘Uncomfortable Silence’ at the Christchurch Gallery
Don’t be daunted by the exhibition’s name – there will be much more fun and music than silence and awkward vibes at the opening of Christchurch Gallery’s new exhibit showcasing the work of new artists. Featuring DJ sets and live music, you can enjoy a free afternoon out with your mates while you dine and drink from the garden bar and BBQ.
